4 Girls Running

We have run together, cried together, laughed together, partied together, dined together, and grown stronger with every stride, and we wouldn't trade any of this for the world. Maybe for some really good chocolate, but that's about it.

Me Again

If this keeps up, we'll have to rename it Pam's Blog! Ladies - where the heck ARE YOU?

So, to keep everyone up to date, here's what's going on with the rest of the girls.

Shana Banana & Spee-Dee have gone and gotten themselves CPR & First Aid certified. As the slow runner in the group, and the clumsiest (who put that curb there?!?!), it feels good to know that they are able to not only sweep me, but also fix my boo-boos and make them all better.

This is in prep for their trip to Atlanta this weekend for two things -- one to run the Atlanta marathon, and the second to get their running coach certification!

Meanwhile, I'm staying home to run the Richmond SPCA Dog Jog & 5K with one of my teammates at work. He's not a runner, he's a soccer player, but he's going to be running the Monument Avenue 10K next weekend, and darn it, I need to scope out the competition and see who's going to be chasing who! I don't know if I can stand the embarrassment if he smokes me, and I'm sure he doesn't want to be "chicked" either. The tension is unbearable!

There has also been some DATING lately between some of the girls and some cute & eligible men in our fair city. Woo hoo! You go, girls!! :)

So, that's what's going on in the 4Girls land. Oh - and we just found out today that the group made it into the Nike Women's Marathon Will California survive, or will this be the event that causes it to fall into the ocean once & for all? We'll wait and see!!

Mid-Life Crisis???

Oh my gosh. Is this what a mid-life crisis feels like? It doesn't feel like I am having overwhelming urges to change things. Some of these are things that I've wanted to do for a while, others are no biggie, and one is just one that fell into my lap. Combine them all into a short time frame, and it certainly SMELLS like a mid-life crisis.

So, what have I done?

1. Got a tattoo. Nothing huge, just something with a lot of meaning for me and in a place for ME (and my hubby) to see. Not something to share. It's there to remind me of the journey I've been on for the past year. A tangible reminder of where I've been and where I am going.

2. Cut my hair off. See previous post. This was a "no biggie" -- I'm always growing/cutting my hair. I will say that this one has to be one of my fav haircuts of all times.

3. Got a motorcycle and my motorcycle license. The motorcycle previously belonged to my GF Shannon (who is also one of the 4GirlsRunning crew), and has just moved out of the city to the boonies and my house. It's PURPLE (and silver). I had NO CLUE how to ride a motorcycle, so I took both the Jump Start and the Basic Rider Course with MSCV (these people are AWESOME -- I highly recommend both classes) and dang if I somehow got an insanely high score during the riding test. Apparently holding your breath is the trick to the figure-8-inside-the-stupid-box test, as I never did it successfully (or even NEAR successfully) during practice, but somehow did it during the test. If I had only gone a smidge faster during the final turn, I would have been perfect. BUT - good enough for my license! YAY ME!

So, is this a mid-life crisis? To me, it's not. I don't have this compelling urge to go out and change things. I've been changing things bit by bit over time, and all these paths just converged on the single point of March, 2008.

Oh, and I ordered this awesome pink motorcycle jacket to wear on my purple Hog. It's FABULOUS! Tee hee!!

Oh how I love my beautiful little (and I do mean little)butterfly! Perhaps all a mid-life crisis has ever been is grown adults finally DOING what they have been TALKING about for years. I'm so proud of you I could piddle!

Reasons to Cut Your Hair Off

OK - I've joined the short hair club for women! This is the shortest I've ever had my hair, and I'm loving it so far.

So, cause it's cool and trendy to do, here's my reasons why:

  1. Speeds up the morning dressing routine. Shower, towel dry, some styling mud, and I'm done!

  2. I'm IMMUNE to HUMIDITY!

  3. No more skanky used Q-tip impressions at the track/gym in the a.m. (Apologies to Unilever)

  4. I can ride with the window down or the top down on the Jeep

  5. I can wear a hat without having hair sticking out at weird angles

  6. Lowering my carbon footprint -- no hairdryer sucking up electricity!

  7. Saving the environment yet another way by conserving shampoo, conditioner and water! How green is that?!?!

  8. Even though I'm married, I can confuse people by hanging out with other women with really short hair

  9. I look like Jamie Lee Curtis

  10. I can wear earwarmers while running without looking like an idiot

and.... the MOST BESTEST thing about cutting off my hair......

  11. No helmet head after 3 hours in a motorcycle helmet!

Oh this made me laugh. I'm seriously debating going ultra-short for summer, and these are some compelling reasons ...

Oh my dearest Pam, you absolutely kill me! I'm so glad you joined the club. Welcome to the short side. Here you will find all sorts of judgements about your gender, your orientation, and your sanity. Walk proudly among us.

I loved having short hair. I always felt put together ... even when I wasn't. And it took 3 minutes to get ready in the morning.

It makes me wonder why I am growing it again!

I am getting used to the short hair, just one thing,,,,

SPEEDEEE you're the only one left with normal length hair. Do not conform , do not conform, remain the rebel.
